BINGHAM FARMS, MI (March 1, 2004) – Bingham Farms-based Netarx Inc. has been chosen from a field of seven vendors to implement a Cisco Systems Inc.-based IP telephony project at Lansing Community College. The project began two weeks ago with the installation of 30 IP phones at LCC's Technology and Learning Center, using Cisco's AVVID architecture and its Call Manager and Unity Voice Messaging technology. After a proof-of-concept period of 30 to 60 days, the project is to move on to its full stage -- the migration of about 2,500 LCC phones from traditional Nortel phone technology to IP telephony over the next three to four years. (IP telephony uses Internet-based data networks to route voice calls rather than traditional telephone equipment.) Netarx has already done other Cisco IP phone projects with more than 5,500 lines.
